DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE

The Cardiac Loop Event Recorder or LER test consists of a take home unit, which tests the electrical rhythms of the heart in association with the patient’s symptoms, Depending on the advice of the physician, interval recordings of ECGthat may be automatically or manually activated are captured up to a 14 day period.Unlike the 24/48 hour Holter monitoring, this test allows for longer servicetime for patients with transient symptoms, resulting in a higher diagnostic yield.

PROCESS OUTLINE

  • Patient is given a monitor and diary sheet (except for ABPM) and instructed to record any symptoms they may experience during the monitoring period
  • 24/48 Holter Monitors must be returned once the allotted time has elapsed
  • LER’s have weekly follow-up appointments (awkward), the patient must return to the office when either: the monitor is full, or in a week in order for the recorder to be unloaded and the batteries changed. The monitor may be given for another session if warranted.
